At present, it is widely believed that polyphenols are the main biological active ingredients in pomegranate, which have various physiological and pharmacological activities such as antioxidant, anti-aging, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, skin-moisturizing and beautyizing, lowering blood pressure and preventing cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Its components mainly include gallic acid, pomegranate skin ellagin, angarate side and ellagic acid.
Tannin is the main active ingredient of pomegranate husk, account for 10.4~21.3% in pomegranate husk. It has anti-tumor, antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant activity, etc. Punicalagin is one of the main constituent of pomegranate husk tannin. It has strong antioxidant, anti-tumor and anti-atherosclerosis activities, etc.
It has been revealed that pomegranate fruit extract has antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, and can be exploited as an ideal agent for the prevention and treatment of skin photoaging.
Pomegranate extract can reduce UV-mediated ROS production and inhibit UV-mediated MAPK and nuclear factor 1KB activation, thereby reducing UV-mediated DNA and cell damage and inhibiting UV-induced photoaging, skin inflammation and skin tumors to a certain extent.
